Attitude Redesign the Hallam Internet website

Once again Attitude Design have worked with Hallam Internet to redesign the Hallam website, www.hallaminternet.com. Hallam are a fantastic team of search engine optimisation experts offering an unparalleled SEO service under the leadership of the renowned internet marketing speaker Susan Hallam. Through the websites various stages, the Attitude team have consistently developed the design and structure to keep it fresh and professional, making it easier to navigate and more powerful to the user. This marks a new development of the Hallam brand identity by presenting the quality services of Hallam Internet in a powerful and modern website.

Old Design

Compare with the old design below, the new design flows smoothly and notice how the subtle use of shadows and forms set the framework, bringing a clean cut finish without losing structure or looking too rigid. The Hallam purple is set off by the use of the pale grey that breaks up the page. The navigation is simplified and careful typography maximises the contrast and clarity of the key messages. Adopting more modern elements make the pages easier on the eye and result in a lighter, more spacious and well structured website.

Call To Action

Throughout the pages are Call To Action sections, which are fully customizable, allowing the attention of site visitors to be guided towards new or important content whilst also aiding the continuity of the design.

Home Page Ticker

The home page now features a fully customisable ticker, which displays key messages to help direct visitors to useful pages. Using large crisp images and snappy messages, attention is kept and important shortcuts transfer visitors to the pages they need most.

Authors

Each Hallam Internet author has a profile page complete with a customisable contact form that can be modified to fit each team member. The website is also integrated with Google+, allowing articles to be matched to their authors on a Google search. The website is also fully linked to social media and it is easy to follow individual team members, keep up to date and share pages. This allows clients to view the latest activity of Hallam on the social sites they visit daily.

Optimised for iphone/ipad using the 1140 grid system

The website is built using the 1140px grid system, making it work fluidly accross different screens, adapting itself for ipad and iphone so that all content can be viewed wherever you are, quickly and clearly! We feel it is important to make the website fully accessible as the number of ipad/iphone visitors rise.

Videos

An informative video interview with Director Susan Hallam adds personality to the message, whilst testimonials from clients also bring a personal touch to the website, in addition to confirming that the company is trustworthy. WordPress

Finally, the Hallam website content is managed using WordPress. WordPress is easy to use and the entire website is customisable, allowing Hallam to update the site regularly and efficiently to focus on relevant news and services, so that the website works like a flexible tool, growing and changing to match the company and its communication needs.

Wow – another year has gone by! We couldn’t let it go without saying a huge thank you to all our clients for their business this year – it’s been great to work (and be working) with you.

A quick look back at 2011

2011 has been another invigorating year for us! We’ve increased our office space and taken on three new members of the Attitude team. We redesigned our website and updated our brand identity. We’ve been involved in some really exciting projects both across print and web. Our clients can now be found globally all over the world. We worked on e-commerce and CMS website projects that were larger than ever before, we launched a couple of iPhone apps, as well as working on integrated marketing strategies across social media, email marketing, photography, video, mobile, web and print. Some of these projects were featured in online magazines such as PixelArts and published by publishers like Liaoning Publishing and Bright Books. A few of our blog posts were also published by respected design blogs like Smashing Magazine and Tripwire Magazine – so a busy year indeed! We’re exhausted!

Lights, Camera, Action!

We’re pleased to announce that we have recently filmed, edited and produced 6 videos for the Actons Solicitors Personally Injury Department. The videos fit in with a larger pay per click and brand strategy and users will be encouraged to view the videos after coming to the Actons site via a Google adword advert campaign.

The power of video

Videos like these are a perfect example of how powerful video on the web is. The videos are directly targeted at the audience and are personal. Real solicitors are featured in them speaking clearly and enthusiastically about a specific service which will help the user with their problem. This is far better than a user facing a wall of text.

Less is more

Appsolutely Amazing!

The Attitude Design team are excited to announce the recent launch of another iPhone App we have designed and developed.

We were approached by Debtology a debt advice company who wanted to release a unique App. The purpose of the App was to provide people in debt with a convenient source of advice and assistance.

Users sign up for an account on the App and then work through a series of personal and financial questions. The information provided is then processed by the App to provide a set of suggested routes forward and a list of appropriate organisations who can help further. Users can “save” information they have inputted – meaning that they don’t have to complete all the questions in one go and can come back to the App at a time convenient for them. The App gives users a personal, professional debt advice service which is both private and accessible.

The nature of the App means that there are lots of questions, information and figures for a user to look at and we were therefore keen to ensure that the user interface was as simple and user friendly as possible. Having already designed the Debtology brand identity and website, we kept the App design consistent with the existing brand and built further upon it. We introduced a series of icons to illustrate different areas of the App and also created a smaller version of the brand identity to serve as the App logo. Some of our designs for the App can be seen below:

The development aspect of the App was quite complex and involved creating a system which took certain information provided by the user to produce certain outcomes.

Spiffingly Good Re-design of the Attitude Site

As you’ve probably noticed, the Attitude Design site has just had a makeover. We’re pleased to announce version 7 of the Attitude site, and (although we might be a teeny weeny bit biased) we think it’s the best one yet!

Welcome to our sparkling new website

There is so much to talk about it’s hard to know where to begin. We’ve continued our brand theme of a stately victorian home into this version. The main colour has been lightened to a slick cream shade so the text is easier to read and the site features a “stately home” theme – with a floorboard effect on the homepage, ornate door on the about us page, beautiful desk on the Services page and an inviting looking chair on the contact page. (No, unfortunately we don’t have a butler.)

The portfolio page really stands out – this area now features a bookcase and each shelf houses an example of our high quality design work. Click on the arrows next to each piece of work and you will be scrolled through to a further example from that project. We also plan to add further functionality to this area – such as client testimonials and key facts.

Infographics

When creating the new design, we also thought long and hard about how we could communicate information about our process and the services we offer in an easier way. These areas of a site often become extremely “texty” and laborious to read. Answer? Cool ‘infographics’! And we’re really pleased with the ones we have developed for Our Process and Services.

These info-graphics communicate the information quickly and effectively – which is just what you want. We are also developing similar graphics for our services pages to make them more useful.

iPad usage

The site has a special style sheet which ensures it looks tasty on an ipad and we also hope to be shortly releasing a mobile version of the site too. Watch this space!

Technology update

The programming technology of the site has also had a make over with the site using HTML5 and CSS3 for things like rounded corners, drop shadows, rollovers etc.

Immediate impact

The new design has already made an immediate impact with the site already being featured in prestigiuos graphic design galleries such as CSSmania and CSSYorkshire. The header graphics of the site have also been well received by the community over at LoveDsgn. We hope to continue to make a splash with new features and graphics.

Attitude’s Work Published… Again!

We are pleased to have recently been included in new publication “Hotel Brand Image Design” by Liaoning Science and Technology Publishing House (LSTPH). We submitted work for our client 1in50hotels – a hotel booking company which offers every 50th booking a free reservation.

Attitude Design work with designer clothing brand – Peckham Rye

Peckham Rye had an amazing story to tell. A 200 year old family company which finds its roots with a humble London beginning but their finely tailored clothes and accessories are now sold globally and worn by royalty and celebrities such as Daniel Craig and David Beckham. With the family company having reached its sixth generation, there’s quite a tale to tell. Peckham Rye approached Attitude Design to help tell the fascinating tale of their brand and to market their wears online. We are pleased to announce that we’ve recently launched their new website www.peckhamrye.com

Telling the brand story

All of the design elements we have produced for Peckham Rye work together to help tell the brand’s story – drawing on the brand’s British heritage and humble beginnings. Victorian craft, British pride, fun typography and a rough and ready feel are all themes which ooze out of the online materials we have produced for the brand. We worked with the Peckham team to create this style, exploring with them their past and finding the unique brand values which make the brand what it is today. This research revealed an amazing story which needed to be told.

Matt Davies, Creative Director, at Attitude Design explains:
“Human beings love a good story – especially one that’s true. Using our expertise in developing heritage brands we worked closely with the Peckham Rye team to tell their story. It’s an honour to have been involved in cementing this historic brand in the modern era.”

Here are some early mood boards we produced for our initial meetings with the Peckham Rye team. Very early on it became apparent that the brand’s heritage made it stand out from other designer brands and so a decision to focus on that aspect of their brand story in the graphic imagery to be used on the site was made.

The Attitude Team were soon producing all sorts of design elements influenced heavily from the Victorian era and style of design but each being dressed up in a distinctive “Peckham Rye” feel. All design features are slightly worn out and have alot of fine detail. Some are shown below:

However while the company is steeped in British history, its new website is focused firmly on taking the company into the future, with a feature animation, full content management, social media integration and e-commerce functionality all built by the Attitude team.

Ecommerce

On a visit to the Peckham Rye shop in Carnaby London it was clear that to shop at Peckham Rye was a unique experience. The staff in the shop were very friendly, with an expert knowledge on all of their products. The shop itself was full of nicknacks and items which related to the McCarthy and Brighty family who are the founders of the brand and whose 6 generations have served the world with their fine tailoring. It was our aim to take as much of this unique experience from the real world to the online world – ensuring the website had the same “feel” as the Carnaby shop.

The e-commerce portal on the site makes it easy for customers to get their hands on a piece of great British tailoring, wherever they are in the world. We have ensured that the fresh brand image does not compromise ease of navigation around the site but that it maximises the chance of users purchasing items. It’s something of which we hope Tommy McCarthy, who founded Peckham Rye back in 1813, would surely be very proud.

An Animated story

One of the main talking points of the site is the brand animation which tells the story of the 6 generations of the family who have given the world Peckham Rye. The animation drew on many of the initial work and research the Attitude Design team had worked on and brought it all together. Below are some initial story boards for the animation:

Attitude Design Official Apple iPhone App Developers

We’re pleased to announce that Attitude Design are now official Apple Developers. This means we can now create Apps officially under the name of Attitude Design Ltd.

We have been developing apps for the last year on behalf of our clients. Notably the iBenefits App we produced for IncomeMax. iBenefits is the UK’s first ever benefits and tax credits information iPhone app. It has already had over 3000 downloads and is a Top 10 resource app in the iTunes app store.

We are also currently working on two Apps on behalf of our clients which will be launched later this year.

Now thought it’s great to be able to have completed the Apple enrolment and be able to produce our very own Apps – for ourselves or on behalf of our clients…

Creative Director appears in DAMT Video

Attitude Design’s Creative Director, Matt Davies, has made a star appearance as an expert in an online training video for Arts Audiences – an initiative from The Arts Council and the Temple Bar Cultural Trust in Ireland. The video is one of a seven module course called “Digital Arts Marketing Training” (DAMT) and has been developed by SEO expert Susan Hallam from Hallam Communications. The course has been tailored specifically to Arts organisations (such as theatres) in Ireland and covers SEO, Social media, Google analytics, Advertising, Web design and email marketing.

Throughout the videos experts are interviewed to give their tips and advice. Matt makes his appearance in the “best practice web design” module giving over 5 minuets of tips on how, as a client, you can get the best out of your web designer and also your website.

The team here at Attitude Design also worked with Hallam Communications on designing and producing the DAMT website and brand style, as well as advertising collateral. Examples of this can be seen below.

Attitude design the new Hallam Website

The team at Attitude Design are very pleased to have been commissioned by Hallam Communications to re-design their exciting new website. We created the previous design for the Hallam website some time ago and were extremely excited to work with the Hallam Communications team again. The new design moves the Hallam brand on, bringing out the qualities of the team and “no nonsense” business attitude that Hallam are known for.

The New Hallam Design:

The old website design (see below) had focused on the managing director of Hallam Communications – Susan Hallam who is very much the face of the brand. However, as time has progressed so Hallam has developed as a business, with new team members being added – who are experts in their own right. The new design has deliberately moved away from the focus being on Susan to being more about what the team offers as a whole.

Old Site Design:

When the old and new designs are compared, you can see that more modern elements have been introduced (like rounded corners) and a less garish and more business like purple has replaced the orange. The over-all message is about what Hallam communications offers and has a wider appeal.

A number of strategies and elements have been introduced to maximise the design’s impact. Here we have a look at the new design in a little more detail and have highlighted x6 key areas which all work together to build confidence in the Hallam brand:

1. Video

Video testimonials are included in the homepage of the website and throughout. This builds trust in the brand – by showing ‘real’ people who have worked with Hallam and the positive affect Hallam has had on their business. There is also a video of the managing director Susan (shown on the left) which again builds trust – showing her genuine passion and business knowledge. Video has always been the communication style of choice but it’s only in the last few years that this has become possible over the web. As time goes on video is going to play a more important role in convincing users and converting sales. This is why we have developed a whole “Video” section on Hallam’s new site which should grow into a brilliant set of video resources – adding yet further to the trust customers will place in Hallam.

2. Facts & Figures

The inclusion of case studies is another great way of practically displaying what it is that Hallam do for their clients. We developed the site so that ‘key’ case studies can be pulled through to the homepage or side bar of the site. These highlight tangible results that Hallam’s expertise has had on specific companies. Again, this boosts trust and confidence in the brand – as one that actually produces results.

3. Messaging

Key messaging is strategically placed on the homepage. When a visitor arrives on a site you have about 1 or 2 seconds to get your message across and this is done with the clear message area. A main central message placed in the header and 3 further areas underneath. On coming to the website people can easily find their way around, understand what it is that Hallam do and importantly – get in touch.

4. Calls to Action

There are clear calls to action placed all over the design. The company telephone number is prominent in the header as well as calls to action being dotted around the text and side columns. At the bottom of every page there is a clear call to action to get in touch with Hallam – this maximises the chances of users using the contact page. This is a tried and tested stratey which we have employed for our clients for a few years now. Mike Hunter of Better Languages told us proudly the other day how that because of the calls to action we designed on his site, his contact page is the second most popular page on his site!

5. Trust points

Does your company belong to any quality assured organisations or trade groups? Has your company qualified for a industry certificate? These can really help build confidence with your target audience and so placing them on your website can help convince a user of your authenticity. We placed these in the footer of all Hallam’s pages to help add further trust to the brand.

6. Social Media

Social media helps people to connect with your brand on web platforms they visit regularly – it’s the modern way to communicate. By having your brand on social media it allows your brand to influence people who have come in contact with you in ways more convenient to them. It also helps you to listen and engage with your audience. We integrated the Hallam website with social media so that when posts are made on the blog then all the social media accounts automatically make a post to the new content. We placed the social media links in the footer and throughout the site to help encourage “mini” conversions whereby users might keep in touch with the Hallam brand after leaving the site.

Brand Identity

1in50hotels.com

We were asked to create a logo design for 1in50hotels.com – which is a company that sells hotel rooms. They required a friendly, professional brand identity for the company with a creative edge.

Global Office Supplies

Global Office are a stationery suppliers who required a fresh, funky yet professional looking logo for their company. A creative design was produced which cleverly fused a feather pen with a leaf – to reflect the company’s environmentally friendly ethos.

LHD Premier Cars

A company which specialises in the sourcing and selling of high end left hand drive vehicles, LHD Premier required a slick and professional logo which reflected the premium quality of service and goods provided by the company. A clean, modern design was developed with accompanying tagline.

Neo Logica

A company which provides businesses with IT and telecoms solutions, Neo Logica required a logo which combined both a ‘classic’ and ‘high-tech’ look. A strong brand identity was created which portrays professionalism and technical expertise.

Hens for Pets

A company which sells products related to keeping hens – Hens for Pets approached Attitude Design to create a brand identity. A friendly, approachable and professional design was created. Attitude Design are currently working on the Hens for Pets e-commerce website – so watch this space!

Hitbuyer

Affiliate program company Hitbuyer wanted to modernize their brand identity. We refreshed their old design and developed a fresh, modern and professional design.

Atlantis

IT solutions company Atlantis required a logo design. A creative design was developed which looks both clean and professional.

LHD Car Supermarket

Attitude Design were approached by LHD Car Supermarket – a company which specialises in sourcing and selling a wide range of left hand drive cars. An approachable and professional design was created with a creative mark.

Print

The British Tailoring Co

Bespoke tailoring business the British Tailoring Co asked Attitude Design to design a set of 2 leaflets for mens and womens clothing. A professional design was created which reflected the premium quality of service provided by the company. Good usage of typography ensured the text was readable and approachable.

Business stationery was also required and we created design and layouts for letterhead, compliment slip and business cards which sat well within the company’s brand identity. A spot UV finish was included in the business card print to give a luxurious edge.

LHD Premier Cars

After designing the brand identity for left hand drive company LHD Premier Cars, we were asked to design stationery, a leaflet and postcard to promote the company.

An A5 leaflet was designed using a clear layout and featuring pull out quotes to spark interest in the reader. A complimentary postcard was created with a form on the back for customers to fill out their details.

A stationery set was also produced which complimented the brand identity of the company – to include letterhead, compliment slip and business card.

Bettison Design

Garden landscapers and maintenance company Bettison Design approached Attitude Design to create a leaflet. Attitude Design had created the company’s brand identity previously and we were delighted to be able to work on the leaflet design. A crisp, professional design was created using good typography and grid layouts to display the text effectively.

LHD Car Supermarket

After designing the logo for left hand drive company LHD Car Supermarket, Attitude Design was asked to create a leaflet and postcard. An A5 leaflet and corresponding postcard was designed which displayed the text in a clear, inviting format.

Global Office Supplies

Attitude Design were pleased not only to design the logo for stationery suppliers Global Office but were also asked to create business stationery, a catalogue cover design and an oyster card wallet design. A clean, professional layout was developed for letterhead, compliment slip and business cards. We created an illustration for the catalogue company – combining stationery items with a globe – giving an interesting and eye catching design. Artwork for the oyster card wallet was also prepared by Attitude Design.

Web

Mississippi

Marketing company Mississippi approached us to design their website. They required a clean design and needed a content managed website – to enable them to add and edit pages/content. A fresh, professional design was created and the website was set up in WordPress – so that the Mississippi team can easily manage the content of the website.

IncomeMAX

Benefits experts IncomeMax approached us a few years ago to design their website. They recently required a refresh of their homepage to keep the design looking up to date. A modern, clean design was created which is consistent with the IncomeMAX brand identity.

Hitbuyer

Affiliate program company Hitbuyer also asked us to design their website. A homepage design and series of complimentary inner page designs were produced which fulfilled the brief – to look modern and professional.

AMA

Event management company AMA approached Attitude Design to design and develop their main website and also to develop a .mobi version (aimed at smartphones) together with an email campaign.

A fresh and professional design was produced for the website – featuring image tickers to display logos of companies AMA have worked with. Testimonials were also placed in key places around the site to help build trust. The site is developed with the content management system Drupal and enables the AMA team to easily edit and add content/pages/blog posts.

A .mobi version of the website was also designed and developed. This is a much smaller version of the site – giving key company information. More and more people are accessing the internet via smartphones and having a .mobi version of your website is becoming key to any businesses.

Finally, an email campaign was designed and developed. The particular email campaign developed is called an ‘auto responder’ – whereby a set of emails are sent at certain points after a person has initially signed up. Each email has a different message – ensuring that after a certain period of time all the main key messages of AMA have been delivered to the subscriber list. A professional design for the email templates was produced which is in keeping with the AMA brand.

The British Tailoring Co

Having created stationery and leaflets for The British Tailoring Co we were also asked to design and develop an email template. We set up the email template in MailChimp – MailChimp is an email marketing tool which has many features including segmentation of email lists and geo targeting. We designed, coded and tested a professional template which The British Tailoring Co can edit for future email campaigns.

LHD Premier Cars

Design of an email template for LHD Premier Cars (for whom we have also designed their logo and several print items). The template was set up in MailChimp and a clean design was produced. The template was then coded and tested. LHD Premier Cars will be able to edit the template for future email campaigns.
