Give Direction to Your Business

Clients often want to ‘come in’ and meet their designers – even if it’s just for an initial chat. They want to see our premises and get a feel for the type of company we are and we always enjoy having a coffee and meeting new people.

Most businesses will have a contact page – with address details, but have you got a map showing your location which is designed to be in keeping with your overall brand? Google maps is fairly good – however it is not easy to see at first glance where useful locations such as transport links are, and in addition Google maps are not consistent with your brand.

Attitude Design can create a street map – showing your location – with a zoom in of your office and highlighting key locations in the area such as bus stations and car parking. The map will be designed in line with your company brand – helping to increase consistency on your site.

The death of Herbert in the corner

Many will be sad to hear that our studio plant – tenderly known as “Herbert” – has sadly passed away. He will be dearly missed. Known to have been a bushy “Heteropanax” from Asia he now is little more than a twig in a pot.

The plant detectives think that the cause of his death is lack of water over the Christmas break and then maybe an over watering upon our return. The investigation is ongoing…

Job Vacancy

We are currently seeking a dedicated plant to sit in the corner. Applicants will need at least 2 days previous experience and look good. Wage: water (occasionally).

Seasons Greetings

A quick look back at 2009

As you may already know, one of the big events (for us) in 2009, was our new move to the Lace Market in the heart of Nottingham. The move went very well and we already feel at home in our new studio. Winter Wonders from Attitude

Attitude Design has had a busy end to the year – with their creative flair sprinkled in generous helpings across a variety of projects. Here we take a look at designs worked on towards the end of 2009:

Vienna

Software testing company NMQA required a fresh brand for one of their products. The brand was to appeal to the corporate market but have a creative edge. A fresh and striking design was developed with an easy to recognize ‘mark’.

MIA – Made in Asia

MIA – Made in Asia approached us to develop packaging designs for a range of soap products. A natural looking illustration design style was produced which compliments the soaps.

Artsbowl

Artsbowl provides a wealth of information on all things creative – in particular it provides details of creative courses in a variety of locations. A brand image was required and also the design for their website. A clean, fresh and of course creative brand image was produced together with a consistent design for the site. Web development company Underdesign then coded the website using the design developed by Attitude Design.

Sife NTU

Attitude Design worked with Stamp Marketing to produce an A5 leaflet and design for a pop-up stand. The design had to appeal to students and be in keeping with the Sife brand. A fresh, modern design was produced which is both eye catching and dynamic in its appearance.

DABD

An email news template was required by DABD – a charity which supports and assists disabled people. A professional design was developed with clear sections for each article to make it approachable and friendly to the reader. The template is designed so that DABD can edit it for future eNews editions.

Better Languages

Translation company Better Languages required a fresh design for their website. The modern and professional design incorporated the use of well known buildings from across the world to reflect the global services provided by Better Languages.

NMQA

After commissioning Attitude Design on the logo design for product Vienna, NMQA approached us to refresh their own brand. This was to be strictly focused on the corporate sector, and to appeal to large companies. A text based logo was developed which denotes a professional, reliable company image.

Advance Education Ltd.

Education provider Advance required Attitude Design to work on a new website design. A clean, simple design was developed which will appeal to the education sector and gives a friendly, professional persona.

EMDA

Attitude Design worked with Nellie PR to produce the Winter edition of EMDA News. This issue contains the Annual Report and some fresh design styles were introduced to display information in an interesting and approachable way.

Stamp Marketing

Attitude Design was approached by marketing company Stamp Marketing to design their logo. An image of a wax seal was incorporated into the modern design which gives the impression of professionalism and dependability.

Best Coder

Logo design for a freelance coder – the design needed to have a ‘technical’ appearance. A creative brand image was developed which reflects high quality service.

500

A Christmas themed email template was required by communications company 500. An attractive and appealing illustration was developed – using the 500 mascot ‘Agent 500′ (a concept also designed and developed by Attitude Design).

10 Design & Marketing Ideas for Your Business

Stuck trying to think of new ideas for marketing your business over the next few months? Why not read through the ideas below and let us know if we can help you with any future projects. Feel free to add any you can think of via the comment field at the end…

1 // Produce a focused mini-website

Create a “mini site” for a special product or service your business is offering. This mini site should be focused – and where possible “fun”. Maybe use a flash animation or game to gather some interest and communicate in simple terms what the product is about. The benefits of a dedicated website for a specific product is that visitors get a target message. Be sure to link back to your main corporate website for users who wish to see more of your products. 2 // Produce an effective brochure

For many years businesses have been producing take away brochures for potential clients. Such a brochure should say all the right things about your business. It should look professional and be printed on good paper stock. It should be something your sales team is proud to leave behind and allow clients to flick through. It should be a “gift” to potential clients. You could also have it produced as a PDF for the web and allow visitors to your website to download it.

3 // Send out email newsletters

Add functionality to your website to allow users to add their email address to your mailing list. If this is set up to add the email addresses to a database you could also set up a admin area to enable you to send out emails to all the users who have signed up automatically. To take it a stage further get the emails to be designed specifically for your business in your brand style – this will ensure brand recognition. Be sure to allow users to unsubscribe if they do not want to receive further emails.

4 // Join in with Social Media

If your business is not connecting with people on Twitter or Facebook then they are missing out on a trick. Connecting on these platforms is useful because they are visited on a daily basis by users who might not visit your site at the same routine – thus you are getting more opportunities in reminding your client base about your business. If you have a blog why not set it up so that when you post a new article it automatically posts it on Twitter and Facebook – this will save your team time as they then won’t have to update each platform.

5 // Fresh logo design

A business needs to be recognizable. reconization Building a brand image is everything and allowing your clients and potential clients to recognize your business is essential for repeat and business. Acquiring a reputation is essential. Does your logo do this? Is it being used consistently? Does it need a refresh? A logo should be the emblem, the banner, that everything else sits behind. If you have products they also might benefit from having a logo design which sits underneath your main brand identity. This will bring them specific – this is especially useful if your products span different industries and target audiences as you can tailor the look and feel for each respectively.

6 // Bespoke christmas cards

With that time nearly upon us again it may be an idea to think about your company christmas cards. Why not commission a design agency to produce a Christmas card that says all the right things in an effective way. A bespoke Christmas card that stands out may ensure that customers see your business in anew light. How about taking your christmas card and making it more effective by running a promotion with it – something like: “To say thanks for working with us this year we offer 10% off of your next order”

7 // Consistent stationery design

Ensuring all of your stationery is consistent is good for recognition. For large businesses this can act as an extension of campaigns that are running and for small businesses it can acts as a campaign in its own right. Do your business cards and letter heads look like the come from the same company?

8 // Advertise effectively

Many small businesses don’t advertise because they don’t make the budget to do so. When they try it they only do it half heartedly and are not focused or targeted and when it doesn’t work they are normally put off by the whole idea. Try thinking about industries which use your services or products and advertise in their industry news magazines – or find out what your customers are reading and place adverts in those magazines. Ensure the advert is well designed with a clear message and call to action so that you can measure how well a campaign is doing.

9 // Let your vehicle signage work for you

Ensure your vehicle signage is effective. Your lorries and delivery vans should at least have your logo on them. You could look at making them effective adverts by adding well designed images and messages to them. A clear simple message that can be taken in in 3 seconds is ideal. Be sure to have an easy to remember call to action – a simple phone number or web address so that people who see them can write it down or memorize it quickly.

10 // Provide an incentive for people to refer you

Set up a referral marketing campaign. Offer a percentage of the first sale to anybody who recommends your business to someone. This inspires them to work as your agents without you having to do any further work! Advertise this within your brochures or on your website. Maybe even produce a leaflet for your sales team to give away on visits to potential clients.

Eido Healthcare

Eido is a company which helps health professionals reduce their risk of litigation and specializes in ‘informed consent’. A clean, professional looking website was developed with key messages placed strategically throughout the site.

EMDA News

Attitude Design worked with Nellie PR to produce the Summer edition of EMDA News. Our fine attention to detail is exhibited in this project.

Advance

Educational business Advance provides support and assistance within schools, working with both teachers and students. A professional yet modern set of stationery designs were produced to compliment the company image.

MIA – Made in Asia

Singapore based company Made in Asia required some illustrations for their website. Several pen and ink drawings were produced of lanterns and bird cages with an oriental style.

The Point Blue Network

This company provides research and field support services to large solicitors firms. A logo design was produced which gives the impression of reliability and professionalism and can sit well on both stationery and other mediums.

Fairway

NHS Pension experts Fairway required a new brand image. A logo design was produced which has a reliable and dependable persona but is modern and professional at the same time.

Trevor Harrington

Successful businessman Trevor Harrington required a site where he could voice his independent political views. A modern design was produced with clear sections for articles and quotations making the site interesting for visitors.

Only Connect

A logo design was required for copywriters Only Connect. A simply yet effective design was produced using a jigsaw piece to illustrate the idea of ‘connection’.

The Lace Market

The Lace Market is a prestigious area in the centre of Nottingham. Close to Nottingham train station, tram links, bus routes and lots of car parks it’s also very accessible. Our new home will be in “Lace Market House” on High Pavement.

High Pavement is also home to the famous Galleries of Justice (whose website and branding we recently designed) and also the new Nottingham Contemporary art gallery. It also has many quality restaurants and bars such as The Living Room to which we hope to treat our clients from time to time!

The online design, marketing and PR portal, The Drum, has featured an article written by Attitude Design’s very own Creative Director (Matt Davies).

The article is one of a series in which The Drum has asked leading creatives across the country the question: “How creative is the city you work in“?

As The Drum puts it: “As part of an ongoing poll on the UK’s creative hotspots, we asked one high profile creative figure from each of 10 major cities to argue the case for their city to be named the most creative.”

Stepping up to the challenge Matt defends Nottingham as one of the UK’s most creative cities – highlighting many of the activities and people in the understated Nottingham creative scene. Other creatives feature from Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield and Leicester.

Attitude Design in Pixel Arts Magazine

Attitude Design feature in this months Pixel Arts Magazine (Issue 14 September 2009). Pixel Arts Magazine is an online magazine devoted to the best new visual communication designs and we are honoured to of had our work selected for inclusion.

On pages 26-33, the magazine features the design work we completed for Future First. This included brand identity, logo design, our innovative graphic illustration system, and website design.

It’s always nice to have our designs celebrated and we would like to thank Pixel Arts for recognizing our work – this is now the third time they have done so.

Sizzling Summer Designs from Attitude

The ratio of sunny days to rainy days has been pretty low this summer but the sparks have still been flying in the Attitude Design studio here in Nottingham. We’ve been hard at work on a variety of projects ranging from brand and stationery design through to website creation. As always we like to keep you updated – so here’s a taste of what we’ve been doing!

Future First

Future First approached Attitude Design for their branding and website design. Future First is a London based company which enables past and present school students to contact each other and provide and obtain career advice. A fun and approachable design was produced which would appeal to students.

The logo itself was very slick and simple, allowing the company to also look professional and attractive to corporate partners and schools. It is envisaged that a more cleaner professional style could be adopted in the future for these markets.

We worked on a brand system which ensured that unqiue graphics could be produced to illustrate a variety of subjects – each having elements of their illustration which were common giving a consistent and unique look. Vibrant and powerful colours were used to help attract attention and a ‘non-corporate’, youth orientated design was achieved to ensure that the target market could feel comfortable approaching and using Future First.

Replay Entertainments

Entertainment service provider Replay approached us for some fresh and funky letterhead, compliment slip and business card designs. The stationery was to work with their current logo to maintain a consistent brand image but also to produce some dynamic designs with a creative edge.

Murdock Heating Services Ltd.

Attitude Design worked with Click Profits to produce a logo for a plumbing company. The blue flame was used to associate the company with the plumbing industry and a strong, modern brand was produced.

Andrea Brearley

Classy Botox treatment provider Andrea Brearley wanted a logo and business card design for her company. A simple yet professional brand image was required and a typographical logo was produced which looks both clean and approachable.

Modern, fresh business cards were also produced making use of spot UV to create a subtle effect.

LHTC

Having already designed the logo and branding for LHTC we have since designed and built their website. This company provides support and training in a variety of sectors including music, sport and income maximisation. Attitude Design produced all the artwork for the site as well as constructing it. The over-all design blends in consistently with the LHTC logo creating a modern and friendly environment to push key messages.

Zoleek

Zoleek is a new social networking site which is based around ‘green’ ethics. They required a brand for their company and a modern logo was produced which illustrates people connecting around a green, natural theme. We are also working with Zoleek on a full design for their new website – watch this space…

Learn to Read the Bible Effectively

Christian group – the Christadelphians required a leaflet and website advertising a series of Bible seminars they are launching in October. A brand was produced which denotes the idea of matters coming into focus.

A simple website was also created which provided a contact facility whereby a visitor to the site can sign up to a seminar – information is automatically emailed to the site administrator.

Also 20,000 leaflets were printed, again in a consistent and modern style – Attitude Design supplying the design.

Edways

Edways provides software to the educational sector and required a brand and website design. We wanted to ensure the brand had an “educational” theme and so the concept of a globe and the Edways “E” were combined to create the logo’s mark. Friendly fonts and a careful colour balance was worked on to produce a approachable yet friendly logo design.

We produced an approachable website design using fresh, clean colour schemes and incorporating a ‘handwritten’ font into the logo to link the brand with students and learning.

Crimeshield

Attitude Design was asked by security product supplier Crimeshield to produce their website. A professional site has been produced with clear messaging and calls to action throughout encouraging more contacts and sales. Products are displayed simply and clearly enabling site visitors to easily view the range of items on offer. The design was to be robust and powerful, giving the messages of security and strength which the Crimeshield products have become known for.

Metro Express

Metro Express – a high quality and professional car wash centre required a brand image creating. They wanted their brand to show that they were a fast, reliable service which provided value for money.

iWeekend

Working with Tourism Ireland Attitude Design designed a mini site which advertises weekend breaks in Ireland. The project was produced with author and marketing consultant Heather Maitland and Hallam Communications.

A friendly, approachable design was produced with clearly defined sections to illustrate the different types of weekend on offer in Ireland.

Income Max – new brand identity and website

We have recently designed the new brand identity and website for Income Max, a new benefits entitlement service.

The benefits and tax credit system in the UK is complex and every year millions of pounds goes unclaimed by those who need it most. The system is so confusing that it is difficult to understand entitlement even if benefits or tax credits have been claimed. That’s where income max come’s in -delivering an effective way of addressing this problem by giving free, independent, confidential and expert benefit check, carried out over the telephone or via email by fully trained welfare benefits advisers.

The Project is a collaborative effort between Lee Healey, and as DABD (uk).

We have already worked with Lee Healey (who recently appear on the BBC’s “Working Lunch” program alongside Sir Geoff Hurst) on his own brand identity and website (see it in action here: www.lhtc.co.uk). Lee is an expert in welfare benefits and was keen to ensure that the branding and the website made Income Max look friendly and approachable. DABD are a charity offering community support in various areas in the London area of Dagenham.

The brand identity design

It was soon established that a clean, friendly and professional design was required that instilled confidence in the service. A combination of two typefaces was used to achieve this, one to add the professional aspect, the other to add the friendly aspect. We also worked hard on color combination and a vibrant pink and solid brown were used to help achieve the two pronged strategy.

The website design

When it came to the website a very clean style was used with clear messages and calls to action. It was imperative that the site and it’s message could be easily understood.

The website was designed to ensure that the information the user required was delivered as quickly and effectively as possible. We worked with Income Max on the priorities they had for the site and the user groups. We then strategically laid out each page with calls to action and messaging placed in positions to maximize the effectiveness of the design.

To help with communicating the key messages we developed “Income Max” characters (shown below) based upon stock images (purchased from istockphoto – created by John Kounadeas). These characters are friendly and help to create the atmosphere required in our breif.

The website is a CMS using WordPress as it’s main engine. This allows Income Max to post latest news articles and amend any content on the site themselves.

Lokumu now on iTunes

The team here at Attitude wish to congratulate one of our clients, Nottingham based chill out artist Lokumu (AKA Martin Nice), for now getting his music available for download on the Apple iTunes music store. We feel Lokumu’s music is absolutely brilliant and have been playing it in the studio on the hot summer days we’ve been enjoying of late!

Spot UV – Add class to your business cards

The effect above is created using Spot UV. “What on earth is Spot UV” we hear you cry! Spot UV is a print finishing expression which allows you to print an area of Ultra-Violet Coating onto your printed material. In English this means you can print a clear glossy vanish instead of an ink over a specific area.

This can be extremely effective and add that little bit of extra class to any print project!
It really is an attention grabber which catches the eye and helps to highlight key features of a design. It works especially well on business cards and in helping to differentiate your business above competitors. You never know, it could be the difference between winning a client and selling a product or missing out completely…
